Initiatives

Mission: To enhance health and promote health equity among diverse Black/ African American communities by providing health prevention and comprehensive health education, cultivating localized partnerships, coalitions, collaborations, and teams that are aligned to actively engage with the community experience.

Our Goal is to enhance community knowledge of health and well-being resources, facilitate access to information, and contribute to the professional development of emerging leaders through community-based learning initiatives.

TGF Initiatives:

COVID-19 Health

COVID-19 is a disease caused by the virus called SARS-CoV-2 which to the world by storm in 2020. Throughout this health emergency the Black/ African American community sits at a greater state of vulnerability and has been affected disproportionately when compared to when compared to White counterparts. This is why TGF is committed to promoting best practices to reduce COVID-19 transmission among our community. It is vital that we do our best to take the necessary precautions to protect ourselves and our communities from this deadly virus.

Health Literacy & Care Navigation

Historically, Black/ African Americans have been subjected to discriminatory policies and practices that have limited their access to quality resources and the skills to properly understand health information. TGF is working to eliminate barriers, providing education & resources that will help Blacks take control of their health once and for all.

Tobacco and Vape Use Education

Our Black/ African American communities have been longtime targets of Big Tobacco. Black people are more likely than white people to suffer from smoking-related disease, such as lung cancer, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and heart disease. To end this vicious cycle of pain and destruction induced onto the black community, TGF is working alongside other local organizations to eliminate predatory marketing and promote culturally competent smoking cessation resources.

Cancer Education

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that black people have the highest death rate for cancer overall. This statistic is shocking, and work must be done to reduce disparity. In this initiative, TGF is committed to supporting cancer survivorship, by facilitating cancer education, care navigation, and elevating the importance of annual screenings and early detection.

Outreach and Education

TGF understands the importance of true engagement and partnership with our local Black/African community. Over its 20 years of existence, TGF committed itself to grassroots service and outreach within the community working to elevate the voices and concerns of the individuals and families whom we serve.

Race, Hate, and Social Justice

Racism and Hate has been on the rise in the United States. TGF is committed to helping reverse this trend and to creating a community (world) where Black and other minority populations can live safely and thrive. We continue to join our partners in advocacy, education, and leadership to move the needle in reducing hate.

TGF is comprised of a network of volunteers including a Board of Directors and Advisory Board made up of researchers, business owners, community and faith leaders, physicians, and health professionals. Together we have over 6o years of experience working within diverse populations, being a leader in health education and outreach.
